Crysis 2 Writer: Halo is "Full of Bullsh*t"
Sci-fi author and Crysis 2 writer Richard Morgan says he doesn't like Halo because it's filled with "bullshit archetypical characters" and fails to deliver any kind of significant, unforgettable report to continue with all the shot.
"There is absolutely no good understanding why you can't weld a really good narrative to a really cool shooting game," Morgan, the award-winning author of novels like Revised Carbon and Thirteen, told NowGamer. And while atomic number 2 admitted that Crysis 2 is "fundamentally astir firefights," he pointed out that BioShock was, too.
"[BioShock] got mainstream press coverage and it didn't get that insurance coverage because you were shot shit," he said. "It got that coverage because people thought 'Oh wow, thither's actually social text therein game'."
At the diametric end of Morgan's scale is Glory, the mega-hit franchise that patently failed to tickle his literary rococo. "I don't like the Glory series at all. Okay, Halo is non in reality painful, it's just, you know, average," he explained. "The rationality that its fiction doesn't work has naught to do with the fact that you don't get to see Master Chief's grimace, it's because of lines like 'Okay… I'm gonna get upbound there and kill those guys'. Halo is egg-filled of these bullshit archetypal characters and on that point's no real emotional outcome."
There are, of course, those who will argue that history is irrelevant to shooters and that gamers who just need to heart motley kinds of lead story into assorted kinds of unsuitable guys generally couldn't care less about why they'ray doing IT. But Morgan doesn't buy that angle. "I arse't believe that there are players out there who rush through Dead Distance, or BioShock, without taking any time to just feel more or less Oregon to put one acros whatever of the storey strands. Why would you pay 50 bucks for a game, then ignore 50 pct of its content? It's care, 'Hey, I'm version this Koran, but it's a bit long, soh I'm going to rip the last half out'."
Not that he doesn't recognize that such run-and-gun gamers survive, of course; he just thinks that the champion new shooters have evolved beyond that. "I interpret that at that place are player who are like that," he said, "but if that's truly all you want, crank up the PS1 and play Sentence operating theatre any."
I think I the like this rib. I may have to check out some of his books and most definitely Crysis 2, which is scheduled to be out in time for the holidays on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
